Lowood State School is dedicated to educating the whole student and this is evident with its music program which is based on the Kodaly and Orff music pedagogy. In prep to year 2 students learn the basics and begin to play instruments both melodic and non-melodic and reading Solfar (do, re, mi etc). In the year we continue Solfar which leads to learning notation on the music staff, they also learn the recorder in these middle years. In year 5, 6 and 7 students learn the Ukulele and begin to explore chord progressions.
Lowood also has a Senior Choir consisting of 40 students from years 3 to years 7, the choir performs at Singfest, Rural Schools Choral Festival and we perform for the local community at the Lowood Kindergarten and the residence of the Glenwood Hostel.
There is also an opportunity for students in years 5, 6 and 7 to learn a Brass, Woodwind or Percussion instrument and our Instrumental Group performs at Silkstone Eisteddfod, Rural Schools Band Festival and for the residence of the Glenwood Hostel.
