Teaching and Learning
Teaching and learning at Lowood State School may look different from other schools as we continually align our practices with current research and best practice. Our approach is shaped by Universal Design for Learning, Assessment for Learning, Visible Teaching and Visible Learning, and Building Thinking Classrooms in Maths. These evidence-based frameworks ensure that every student is engaged, supported, and challenged in their learning journey. By adopting innovative strategies, we provide an inclusive and effective learning environment that caters to the diverse needs of our students.
Inclusion
At Lowood State School, we believe that every child deserves the right support to succeed. We provide Tier 1, 2, and 3 supports to ensure that all students receive the right level of intervention and guidance. Our Student Support Services Team plays a vital role in delivering these supports, working closely with students, staff, and families.
For students requiring additional assistance, we offer a range of Tier 2 interventions, including:
- EmpowEd – Building student confidence, belonging and resilience
- Lego Club – Encouraging social skills through creative play
- Mindful Movements – Supporting emotional regulation and well-being
- Secret Agency Society – Helping students develop social and emotional skills
- Forest School – Promoting outdoor learning and problem-solving
- Check In – Providing regular support for students' well-being
