Established in 1881, Lowood State School is situated thirty-five kilometres from Ipswich in Education Queensland’s Metropolitan Region. The community, which consists of established rural families and families new to the area, is currently experiencing a period of rapid growth and expansion.

Our school consists largely of traditional style teaching blocks which remain from our early days as a ’high top’ with a secondary department. We also boast a brand new, modern resource centre alongside a multi-purpose teaching space incorporating five  state-of-the-art, home-style kitchens which, together with our organic vegetable garden. Lowood State School enjoys extensive, well-maintained grounds and large sporting ovals which allow us to host school and district sporting events.

As well as offering a Prep to Year 6 education, our school campus also offers a Special Education Program (SEP) which provides an inclusive educational setting for students with intellectual, speech/language or physical impairments, as well as children with autistic spectrum disorder. The SEP also incorporates an Early Childhood Development Program (ECDP) which caters for pre-Prep aged children with disabilities. Prep readiness is fostered through our provision of an on-site playgroup which operates twice weekly, catering for children from birth to Prep age.

At Lowood State School, the principles of effective teaching and learning, underpin the educational programs offered across the school.

To maximise teaching and learning outcomes, teachers at Lowood State School are members of intensive teaching teams (P/1, 2/3, 4/5/6) and work collaboratively to deliver curriculum units in English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography which are aligned with the Australian Curriculum. Students also undertake studies in Technology, Health and Physical Education and the Arts. There is also a weekly focus on mindfullness that develops the student's ability to focus on learning.

At Lowood State School we are committed to ensuring that our students are afforded a quality education which promotes the successful achievement of basic skills in literacy and numeracy, as well as the application of life-long process skills in thinking, problem solving, decision making, creativity, communication and teamwork.

Our goal is to empower our students with these skills so as to enable them to confidently meet the challenges of the future.
